Hand Embroidered Square Pouches

Introducing a collection of hand-embroidered pouches from Sana`a, Yemen, skillfully crafted by dedicated women supported by YENOF.

Yemen Noor Foundation for Education and Relief (YENOF), is a non-governmental organization established in April 2003. Initially dedicated to ensuring access to education for underprivileged children, the organization has evolved to address the holistic needs of families.

In 2007, YENOF initiated a parallel program focusing on the self-sufficiency of parents. Mothers were engaged in sewing and embroidery workshops, along with interest-free loans, to augment family income. This strategic approach aimed to enable parents to support their children's education, fostering economic, social, and cultural impacts. Workshops also raise awareness of Yemen's rich embroidery and needlework heritage.

In 2013, Nouria Nagi, founder of YENOF, received the prestigious Order of the British Empire (OBE) from Queen Elizabeth II for her transformative work with Yemeni women and children. This recognition underscores the significant impact of YENOF's initiatives.

In 2019, YENOF's embroidery program garnered acclaim for its cultural importance. Through workshops, the foundation actively preserves and raises awareness of Yemen's rich embroidery and needlework heritage, adding a cultural dimension to its impactful programs.

As of now, YENOF has provided education to over 500 women from extremely low-income families and facilitated the schooling of more than 550 children.
