This hand-embroidered pouch was made by Sammya, a government-school teacher who began her embroidery journey with YENOF in 2017. Over the years, embroidery became an important source of support for her family. During the height of the war, when government salaries were frequently delayed or irregular, it provided a reliable supplementary income that helped cover essential household expenses and support her daughter’s university education.

YENOF, the Yemen Noor Foundation, supports women and children from extremely low-income families in Yemen through education and craft-based income programmes.These hand-embroidered pieces are made by women participating in YENOF’s embroidery programme, established in 2013, which helps mothers learn new skills and earn an income while supporting children to remain in education.
