Notes of rosewater, orange, white peach, tamarind, caramel, dark chocolate, and strawberry shortcake. Bait Rumaim, the home of the Rumaim family, sits within the Bait Alal cluster in Hayma Kharijiya, where coffee has passed down as an ancestral trade for generations. Bait Alal itself rises above 2,300 metres, home to some 300 farming families and coffee trees nearing 300 years old, in a place many residents believe is where coffee itself began.

Processed as Carbonic Honey, a water free adaptation of the honey method built for Yemen's dry conditions: cherries ferment in a sealed, carbon dioxide flushed environment before being depulped without water, mucilage left intact, then dried slowly on raised beds for around 25 days. The variety is Yemenia, the mother population found nowhere else on Earth, its centuries of drought and temperature extremes bred into a cup of wild complexity and structured acidity.

Set up in the midst of Yemen’s raging civil war, Qima Coffee was first established to serve Yemen’s coffee farmers in 2016 and has grown to become Yemen’s largest specialty coffee exporter, and one of the country’s most impactful social enterprises. Since launching, Qima has grown from working with 30 farmers in one community in south central Yemen to working with almost 3,000 smallholder farmers in 55 communities across Yemen’s coffee growing lands.
Beyond coffee sourcing, Qima has invested significant resources into researching Yemen’s coffee genetic landscape and has published numerous scientific papers on the subject. In 2020, Qima announced the discovery of Yemenia, a previously unknown genetic group of the Arabica coffee species. The Yemenia genetic group has displayed unique and complex cup quality and significant potential for climate resilience - an attribute which may be of benefit for millions of farmers across the globe.
Qima continues to invest in Yemen’s smallholder farmer infrastructure and push the boundaries of innovation and R&D to reestablish Yemen’s reputation as a hugely significant coffee origin, for the past, present and future of the global coffee industry.

Every cup begins with a seed. We cultivate and distribute young coffee trees to farmers, nurturing the journey from the very start. Each plant represents potential — for quality, for prosperity, and for a more sustainable future at origin.

Process

At harvest, every step is intentional. Working closely with farmers, we guide ripe cherry selection, explore innovative drying methods, apply precision processing and roast with scientific care to unlock each coffee’s character. It’s where science meets craft, and where flavour truly begins.

Pour

The final act of the journey. Our baristas serve each cup with the same respect it was grown — balancing skill and care to reveal the coffee’s story. From tree to cup, the pour completes the circle.
